Selection Process

Regular Student

Number of openings

The programme offers annually 25 openings for Academic Masters, and 17 for Doctorate, with entries in the first semester each school year.

Selection period

The public-call for the selection process é released between September and October, and the selection itself takes place between November and January.

Application

The application is solely on-line through the SIGAA system (http://www.sigaa.ufba.br).

Steps

For the Academic Master, the steps of the selection process are: 1) application: the confirmation of the application depends on the presentation of all the documents requested in the Call for Selection Process; 2) proof of English language proficiency: assessing the reading and comprehension skills of English texts; 3) specific skills test: evaluates the candidate's writing and writing skills, as well as his/her abilities for research in Psychology; and 4) oral defense of a pre-project: evaluation of the written project, and a 10 minute oral presentation of the candidate, without the aid of audiovisual resources.

For the Doctorate Programme the steps of the selection process are: 1) application: the confirmation of the application depends on the presentation of all the documents requested in the Call for Selection Process; 2) proof of English language proficiency: assessing the reading and comprehension skills of English texts; 3) curricular analysis: evaluation of the candidate’s scientific production and experience in research, as well as teaching through the analysis of the CV Lattes and supporting documents; and 4) oral defense of a pre-project: evaluation of the written project, and a 20 minute oral presentation of the candidate, without the aid of audiovisual resources.

  Foreign Students

In the public call for selection of regular students, PPGPSI offer a certain amount of openings for foreign students in the Academic Master’s and Doctorate courses. According to the Resolução CONSEPE nº 02/03, the foreign candidate must comply with the following requisites:

I  - to be a citizen of a country with which Brazil holds a cultural, scientific and technological cooperation agreement;

II – must not have a permanent visa in Brazil;

III – to present a university undergraduate diploma;

IV – to present proof of language proficiency in Portuguese (CELPE-Bras);

V  -  to present the Curriculum Vitae.

In order to apply, foreign candidates must send, through the Brazilian Embassy in their countries, ​​the documentation listed in Resolution CONSEPE No. 02/03, together with their preliminary research project, within the application period established in the public call for the selection process for regular Brazilian students. We recommend that, prior to submitting the application, the candidates inquire from a PPGPSI faculty member whose research lines are in line with their research project available for supervision.   
 After analysis of the documentation and according to the availability of professors for supervision, the Program Collegiate will deliberate on the acceptance of the candidate. If accepted, the candidate will receive a letter of acceptance, which will allow him/her to request grant support from his country, and to process the student visa.  
 The Brazilian government offers postgraduate grants for foreigners from countries with which Brazil holds an Agreement for Educational, Cultural or Science and Technology Cooperation, through the Program of Students-Postgraduate Agreement (PEC-PG). Ad hoc Student

As per Article 14th in the Complementary Norms for the Post-Graduate Programmes at UFBA, the Programme Collegiate can, independently of the regular selection process, accept enrollment in subjects under the category of ad hoc student with the right of obtaining curricular credits, in the case of a subsequent successful performance in the regular selection process. 

A student can enroll in up to 4 (four) subjects, being limited to 2 (two) subjects per semester, considering all the units at UFBA. The evaluation of the ad hoc candidate will be carried out by the professor in charge of the course, which is being chosen, who will also define the selection criteria, number of openings, date, time and place for selection.

The application dates, as well as the dates for the announcement of results in the selection process, and enrollment will be defined in the UFBA academic calendar. Up to one week before the opening of the application period, a list of the subjects and timetables, names of the professors in charge, course content, and selection criteria for application, which is usually by post, will be announced.

Enrollment instructions of selected candidates will be supplied at the time of the announcement of the results. The candidate is responsible for meeting the requirement at each phase.

Note: The ad hoc student is not entitled to the Salvador Card due to not having a bond with the University, but only with courses. Salvador Card is a benefit to which only regular students are entitled.
