SOCIAL AND WORK PSYCHOLOGY
This area encompasses two realms of research in Psychology that can be viewed as being relatively independent, despite the important links they hold with each other. Social Psychology is devoted to the study of classical topics in the fields of social cognition and social representation, considering phenomena such as violence, stereotypes, prejudices, communications and social ties, whose research, taking from Psychology, has relevant social implications . The interface between Psychology and the world of work is, in turn, another broad and consolidated field of research. This area of concentration focuses mainly on the psychosocial perspective for the understanding of micro-organizational processes, such as cognitions, emotions, attitudes and learning that shape the institutionalized work spaces. As a result, it encompasses the impacts of such processes on work health, emotions, and people management processes in organizational contexts.
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY
The area studies the human life cycle, focusing on different realms: development of cognitive, emotional, social and behavioral processes, including their interaction and integration, related to the contexts in which they occur. In addition to the classical developmental phenomena, the area encompasses the study of theories regarding the mechanisms of developmental change. This area has been articulated around research projects focused on the different contexts of childhood: family, day care, school, play, work, the street, and other institutions. Converging on the theme, the projects are based on different theoretical and methodological frameworks, favouring, in part, development processes and, in part, history, social representations and practices of children and adolescents protection.
